Text Box: Merry Christmas, Everyone!

December  2010

Text Box: Our last trip for  2010 was to South Texas in Edinburg.  It is here that we spent the Holidays and will spend the next two months.  Our friends, Henry & Anne finally caught up with us and in time to spend the Holidays together.  Also here are Abe & Donna Stine, who manage this park, and Jerry & Maryiln Cherry, who spend the winter nearby at Bit of Heaven RV Park.   Both are HR 400 members.  We arrived a little more than a couple of weeks ahead of the Goldman’s and spent the time catching up on some chores and spending some time with Abe & Donna.  The weather was really good, and at times appeared to be the only warm area in the whole country.

Well, Henry & Anne called us when they pulled into the Flying J located down the street.  We jumped in the car and went down to meet them.  It was a joyous reunion after months of delays.  They actually had to ’run for it’ in between snow storms to get out of Elkhart!  The first picture is of them at the gas station.  This is their first experience in South Texas, so we plan on giving them a bit of a tour.  It should be fun.

Abe & Donna went to Dallas to be with family for Christmas, so we were on our own.  Christmas Eve we decided to have a camp fire in the designated area down the street.  It was a perfect night with warm temperatures and calm.  Bob and Henry were just getting it started, when another couple showed up with their chairs and a drink. Ten minutes later another couple showed up….then four more….and before we knew it, we had between 20-30 people around the fire.  We all chanted, “Build it and they will come!”  The next day was Christmas and it is the custom for the regular group to have a Christmas dinner in the club house.  Everyone signs up for specific contributions for the dinner.  Everything was excellent and with tons of leftovers.  After dinner, there was a $10 gift exchange.  On the right is Anne with her gift.  Below is a picture of the City of Hidalgo’s Christmas tree and other lighted decorations.  We took the trolley ride through downtown Hidalgo, viewing the ‘Festival of Lights’ that Hidalgo is famous for.  It was beautiful!  Well, talk with you again in January 2011…..
