Text Box: Reflections from Myrtle Beach &
Happy Halloween!!

October 2008

Text Box: When we arrived back in Myrtle Beach on Oct 5th, we were quite busy with setting ourselves up, being greeted by friends who were already here, and focusing in on  scheduled medical appointments.  It felt good to be back.  Bob & I always feel comfortable here and never seem to get bored.  I am sure it is a combination of friendships, the many activities available in the area, and the great weather - not to mention the great beaches.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by our friends and former motorcycle buddies, Rich & Jean and John & Barbara.  They had already been here a couple of weeks, which we knew, and we were looking forward to seeing them again.  In the days that followed we picked up where we left off, as good friends do, without missing a beat.  We spent many an hour traveling across country with them on our Gold Wing in the 1980’s and 1990’s.  Bob started the local Gold Wing Chapter in our area in NY and Rich & Jean were one of the original members. Rich was the Chapter Road Captain. As Jean said, Myrtle Beach is just a brand new chapter in our lives.  Thanks guys for your friendship and some really great times.  Check out the pictures below.

Text Box: Around the middle of the month, Paul & Angie arrived and brought with them stories of their recent Holiday Rambler caravan experience at the Charlotte 500 Races in North Carolina.  They too joined with us in some of our activities with the Strobels and Marciano’s.  We went out to dinner a few times and attended the ONE SHOW together.  It should be noted that Paul & Angie were Gold Wing owners also at one time.  We ladies went shopping together, taking advantage of some of the great discount stores that Myrtle Beach has to offer and Jean was able to hunt down her special red dress shoes she needed.

Then there is the Briarcliffe Yard Sale on Saturday the 25th.  We could sell things at our camp site.  It had rained the two days before so the morning of the 25th  was still damp and we didn’t know if many people were going to participate.  I had been working on some crochet items to put out for sale and Bob had a couple of items to put out, but was pessimistic about the attempt.  The sun came out and the day turned out quite nice.  A few people set up tables and I even bought a couple of decorations.  Then much to his surprise, Bob sold one of his items and I sold most of mine and even got an order from a woman who wanted 10 more.  I was delighted.

Then there is Bingo in the Park which is held most Wednesday evenings, enabling me to collect my paper products. The prizes are snacks or useful  products like paper towels, etc.  Most of us attended as long as it was offered.  Most of us won something.

Bob & I finished with our doctor appointments and faced the reality that we had to lose a few pounds.  We kind of knew this was coming and it was smart to do something about it before things got out of hand.  I may have to learn how to cook again!

About 15 years ago, while home in NY, I dressed up like my cat Fred, for Halloween.  In the pictures below, I am holding Fred, who didn’t like the idea at all.  On the right you can see my full costume.  Happy Halloween to all!!!
